How accurate is this?

We use the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vPIC database — the official VIN decoder the US government uses for safety recalls + crash data. Covers all US-market vehicles since 1981 in detail.

Tokunbo coverage: Excellent for US-spec imports (the bulk of NG tokunbo). JDM/Euro imports may decode partially (engine + body OK; trim + options may be missing).

Use this for: verifying year + trim before buying, catching mis-listed cars on Jiji/Cars45, confirming spec for insurance quotes. Don't use this for accident or odometer history — for that, run a Carfax/AutoCheck (paid).
