The real cost of a Lagos wedding in 2026 — venue, catering, decor
A 300-guest Lagos wedding now clears ₦18-32M before honeymoon. Venue alone is ₦4-9M. Here's the line-item breakdown — and the three cuts that save the most without anyone noticing.
A mid-tier Lagos wedding — 300 guests, mainland or VI venue, full traditional + white combo — cleared roughly ₦8-12M in 2022. The same wedding in May 2026 clears ₦18-32M, an increase well ahead of headline inflation. The /wedding-budget calculator on PriceRadar walks through every line; here's what the May 2026 numbers actually look like.
Venue (₦4M-₦9M). Top-tier VI/Ikoyi venues — Civic Centre, Federal Palace, Eko Hotel ballrooms — clear ₦7-9M for a Saturday evening hire. Mainland equivalents (Haven Event Centre Ikeja, The Monarch Event Centre, Landmark) sit at ₦4-6M. Off-peak Friday or Sunday is typically 25-35% cheaper. The biggest single cost driver after venue itself is generator + cooling — added separately, ₦400K-₦800K for a 300-guest evening event.
Catering (₦4M-₦7M). A typical 300-guest small-chops + main-meal package from a known caterer (Lagos Caterer's Network tier — RedDish, Iya Eba, Bukka Hut Premium) runs ₦12,000-₦22,000 per head. So the catering line alone is ₦3.6M-₦6.6M before drinks. Drinks add another ₦800K-₦1.5M if you do a full open bar including spirits; ₦400K-₦700K for soft + wine + beer only.
Decor (₦2.5M-₦5M). This is where the cost has moved fastest — floral installations now use partially-imported stems priced through the parallel FX rate. A 'lush' aesthetic (the Pinterest-led look popular since 2023) runs ₦4-5M routinely. A simpler 'classic' setup with locally-sourced flowers + minimal installations drops to ₦2.5-3M for the same guest count.
Other line items. Photography + videography: ₦2-4M for a recognised team (Klala, BigDealsPhotography, Insigna). Bridal styling (dress + accessories + 2-3 outfit changes): ₦1.8-4M. Cake: ₦300-700K. Aso-ebi management + souvenirs: ₦1-2M depending on guest list count. Wedding planner (the line couples cut first but regret most): ₦800K-₦2M flat or 10% of total budget. MC + DJ + band: ₦600K-₦1.5M.
Where to cut without anyone noticing. Three high-leverage moves:
- Move from Saturday evening to Friday evening — 30% discount on most venues, no impact on guest experience.
- Cap the open bar to beer/wine/soft (skip spirits) — saves ₦600K-₦900K, almost zero guest complaints.
- Use one strong floral focal point instead of full ceiling installations — saves ₦1.2-2M, photographs nearly as well.
For an interactive line-by-line builder with savings flags on each row, see /wedding-budget. And if FX-imported elements (decor flowers, bridal dress fabric) are crushing your budget, the /state-of-naira dashboard gives you a sense of whether to lock now or wait.
The destination-wedding alternative. A 60-80 guest destination wedding in Cape Town or Zanzibar — flights, hotel block, two-day event, all in — now lands at ₦22-30M for the couple plus a self-pay travel cost for guests. Versus a 300-guest Lagos wedding at ₦25M, the destination format trades guest count for per-head experience. The math only works if your social circle accepts a small-guest list without offence; for many Lagos families that constraint is a non-starter. Run the /flights and /hotels numbers either way before you commit — the gap between best-case and worst-case execution on either format is the real wildcard.
