Hotel rates Lagos vs Abuja vs PH — 2026 corporate travel guide

A 4-star room in Lagos VI averages ₦142,000/night. Abuja CBD is ₦128,000. Port Harcourt GRA is ₦98,000. The premium isn't location — it's the dollar-priced expat anchor in Lagos.

Corporate travel in Nigeria runs on three cities — Lagos for finance and tech, Abuja for government and policy, Port Harcourt for energy. The /hotels vertical tracks median rack rates at 4 and 5-star properties across all three, refreshed weekly from Booking, Agoda, and direct-hotel feeds. Here's the May 2026 picture.

4-star average rack rates (mid-week, 7-day advance booking, single room):

  • Lagos VI/Ikoyi (Eko Hotel Suites tier, Radisson Blu Anchorage, Four Points Lekki) — ₦142,000/night
  • Abuja CBD (Transcorp Hilton tier, Sheraton, Hawthorn Suites) — ₦128,000/night
  • Port Harcourt GRA (Le Méridien Ogeyi, Hotel Presidential, Visa Karena) — ₦98,000/night

5-star top tier. Eko Hotel Lagos cleared ₦285,000/night as median May rate (oil-and-banking conference cycle). Transcorp Hilton Abuja median is ₦240,000. There is no genuine 5-star in Port Harcourt by global brand standards — the top-of-market is Le Méridien Ogeyi at ~₦175,000.

Why Lagos commands the premium. Two reasons. First, dollar-priced demand: oil-and-gas service firms, international banks, and consulting firms book Lagos at rates that anchor against London or Dubai per-diems, not naira-denominated business. Second, supply tightness — Lagos has fewer 4-star rooms per capita than Abuja, and the Lekki coastal corridor has not added meaningful inventory since the Lekki Pearl Towers opened in 2024.

Where to actually save. Three under-priced corridors:

  • Abuja Wuse 2 / Maitama serviced apartments — full kitchen + workspace at ₦65-90K/night for week-plus stays, 30-50% under hotel rates.
  • Ikeja GRA hotels — Sheraton Lagos, Radisson Blu Ikeja both run 25-35% below their VI/Ikoyi sister properties at similar quality.
  • PH off-GRA — boutique properties in Trans-Amadi and GRA Phase 4 (Genesis, Novotel) run ₦55-75K, generally fine for shorter trips.

Operational tips. Hotel rates in all three cities move ±20% based on event calendars — NIPS (oil), NES (economics), Bankers' Committee weeks in Abuja, OPEC+ visits to PH. Lock 14-day advance and watch the calendar. For multi-city trips, the /trip-cost calculator handles hotel + flight + ground transport in one view. And if your firm is renegotiating corporate rate cards for H2, our /inflation data gives you the defensible YoY-increase benchmark.

Bonus signal: the FX overlay. Many top-tier Lagos and Abuja properties (Eko, Transcorp Hilton, Sheraton) quote a USD rack rate internally and convert to NGN at a rate close to parallel (see /fx) — meaning the headline naira number you see drifts upward whenever the parallel premium widens, even if no policy change occurred. Booking in NGN-quoted properties (most mid-tier 4-stars) shields you from that drift. Worth knowing if your finance team is comparing month-over-month rate cards and the variance looks 'unexplained'.
